Accident Reconstruction Team (ART)

Accident investigations are intended to determine how and why accidents occur. Sheriff’s reports and diagrams may reveal points of impact and other key factors. However, the reports may tell only one side or an incomplete version of the events.

The main objective of an Accident Reconstructionist (which is a highly trained accident investigator) is to recreate the events leading up to the accident and the circumstances of the collision itself, thereby determining whether the crash could have been avoided. In many instances, an experienced Accident Reconstructionist can uncover other important aspects of a crash which have been completely missed or overlooked by others.

Investigators of the Accident Reconstruction team consist of highly trained investigators assigned to the Investigations Division of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. Although not all accidents will be assigned to the Investigations Division, the reconstruction team will investigate incidents involving serious bodily injury or accidents that result in a fatality where there is an indication that criminal charges may be applied.

Members of this section have received formal training from the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) and Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). This section is composed of one sergeant and three investigators.
